Frequently asked questions

What is a time zone identifier?
A name from the IANA database, such as Europe/London, that resolves to an offset at a given instant. The offset is read from the identifier, never stored, because it changes twice a year in zones that observe daylight saving.
Why is the UTC offset different from last month?
Because the zone moved its clocks. A zone that observes daylight saving has two offsets, and which one applies depends on the date.
